Monterey in August
Posted on July 27, 2017
In 1950, owners of a dozen now classic cars gathered at the then Del Monte Lodge on the Monterey Peninsula after a winding road race through the nearby forest. As weekends go there, the car show was a tiny event, which also included more racing nearby and Bing Crosby’s Clambake golf tournament. Boy, has that changed.
In the last six decades, Bing’s Clambake has become a big-time golf tournament, and the vintage racing at Mazda Raceway and world-famous Concours d’Elegance at Pebble Beach are just two anchors of a full week of automotive amazement which includes additional car shows, auctions, parties, and more specialty racing.
True gearheads spend the entire week there speeding from event to event; others undertake a more traditional weekend of vintage racing on Saturday and wrap up with the Concours on Sunday at The Lodge at Pebble Beach.
If you’re not able to be there yourself in mid-August, Ranch & Coast will be there for you, with live updates on our social channels and in our Transportation section of our site.
