Padres Pedal the Cause is Curebound's signature community event, bringing together thousands of participants each year to raise money for collaborative cancer research in San Diego. Hosted in partnership with the San Diego Padres, "Pedal" is San Diego's most impactful fund- raising experience with more than $15 million raised to date to fund 78 innovative research grants in all types of cancer. There are many ways to get involved, with cycling courses for all abilities, a 5K run/ walk, spin classes, kids' challenge, and virtual and volunteer oppor- tunities. "Paradise Dreams Animal Sanctuary's mission is to facilitate the bridging of people and animals in a natural setting with the intention of healing two souls at once," says Sandra denUjil, Tea3 Foundation president and founder. "The sanctuary is in need of funding projects to expand its equine therapy, holistic rescue horse rehabilitation, and domestic and wildlife animal programs to provide emotional support to veterans and autistic children," she adds. Eloise Christopher, founder and principal of Paradise Dreams Animal Sanctuary, says, "Proceeds from this event will fund structures and vehicles needed to sustain and expand the sanctuaries in Lake Hodges, Mount Israel, and Murrieta." The event honors a dozen extraordinary women for their dedication to our community through volunteerism and service. The honorees include Christy Billings, Barbara Crew, Andrea da Rosa, Lena Evans, Holly Heaton, Connie Ojeda Hernandez, JoAnn Kilty, Kimberley Layton, Irene Mylonas, Olivia Puente- Reynolds, Carol Sciotto, and Inez J. Thomas. Event co-chairs are Roxi Link, Clarice Perkins, and Danitza Villanueva. Honorary chairs are Sherry and Kevin Ahern, known for their business achievements and philanthropic commitments to The Salvation Army and many other organizations. Pat and Bob Whalen, longtime philanthropists, will receive the Peggy Matthews Legacy Award for their decades of service to The Salvation Army. Sandra Maas serves as emcee; Clint Bell is auctioneer.
