Prospector at Heart

watching the hit Discovery Channel
show Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch, the
ranch in question is a sprawling 160-acre
property in Utah's Uintah Basin that is
home to caves and caverns and fabled
treasures stretching back to the time of
the Aztecs. But accessing these underground chambers
is no easy task, which is where Rancho Santa Fe resident
Eric Drummond comes in.
Drummond, who moved to Rancho in 1993 with his
wife, Laura, is a professional geologist with specialties in
hydrogeology and engineering geology. He has spent much
of the last 30 years examining earthquake faults, determining
geo hazards, and overseeing cleanup of contaminated soil and
groundwater, often related to World War II-era fuel storage
facilities.
But Drummond also has a longstanding interest in
prospecting for gold and precious gems, which is how his
