latest millinery designs from Diana Cavagnaro Millinery, Sheridan at Rancho Valencia, Patrick James, and Carol Bader's Del Mar Hat Company. One of Bader's creations graces this month's cover, and I am wearing one of the designer's hats in the vintage photo on this page (shot many years ago on Del Mar Plaza's ocean-view deck). And last but not least, Ranch & Coast is partnering with L'Auberge Del Mar on the resort's traditional Opening Day After Party, so please join us for the social event of the summer season. By now, "May Gray" and "June Gloom" are (usually) behind us, and sunny, glorious days stretch ahead. . It is time to savor the summer — long, lazy beach days, backyard barbeques, farmers markets, outdoor concerts at Del Mar's Powerhouse Park, dining al fresco at the many sea-view restaurants along the coast, hiking at Torrey Pines State Beach, and kicking off your shoes and squishing sand between your toes. While there are many worthy festivals and fundraisers to attend this time of year (see our Attend section), this is also time to relax, regenerate, and appreciate what we have. July is also our annual Del Mar-focused issue. In "New, Now, Next," our editors bring you the latest, from a hotel refresh to fitness/wellness offerings. We also offer "Del Mar Dining from A to Z," a roundup of restaurants from Adelaide at L'Auberge Del Mar to Zel's. While there are new restaurants on the scene, Food & Beverage Editor Brandon Hernández reviews Pacifica Del Mar, a longtime seafood favorite atop Del Mar Plaza with a new chef at the helm. In "Summer Essentials," I bring you a beach bag full of must-haves from area merchants and retailers, including fashion and accessories from Alexander Daas, Jennifer Croll, Julie's Beachlife, Faherty, Matti D, MJH Studios, Roark, Sea Biscuit, Sundancer, Sun Splash Swimwear, TRE, Tucci, and Urban Girl, as well as outdoor elements from Serena & Lily. Dr. Melanie Palm of Art of Skin MD offers her picks for the best sunscreens. (Be sure to slather them on!) July is also synonymous with the Del Mar Race Track, which kicks off its summer meet on July 22. As always, Opening Day will feature the traditional Hats Contest, so we'd be remiss not to toss in our picks on the Andrea Naversen, Editor-at-Large Instagram: @ranchandcoast @ranchandcoast ranchandcoast.com 36 JULY 2022 RANCH & COAST MAGAZINE
