SDYS: PHOTO BY KEN JACQUES SDYS New Director A new artistic director for the San Diego Youth Symphony has been announced and he will begin his duties on August 22. His name is Sameer Patel and he has received glowing comments and recommendations. One highly respected colleague described him as "an impeccable musician" possessing "a heart of gold and a joyful passion for sharing music with others." Patel will serve 3,000 students a year through SDYS' many programs. In addition to working with more experienced students, the youth organization is expanding its focus to also provide early childhood music education programs. Possessing a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting degree, Patel is thrilled with his new assignment. The eager music students and SDYS mirror that sentiment. 619.233.3232, sdys.org DARLENE G.
