For more than five decades, Sanders has stepped up to make San Diego a better place as the city's chief of police, mayor, and leader of several local organizations, including the United Way and, most recently, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. e annual SDIC Champions of Scouting event honors San Diego community leaders who recognize and support the positive impacts resulting from its youth leadership and community service programs.
