I organized a multi-generational family vacation to celebrate my husband's birthday at the beautiful Terranea Resort on the Palos Verdes Peninsula overlooking the coast with the outline of Catalina Island in the distance. It offers a variety of ocean view accommodations, multiple restaurants, and so much to do: swimming, hiking, archery, exploring the tidepools in a kayak, fitness classes, spa treatments, and even relaxing. Kids young and old especially loved meeting magnificent birds of prey, introduced by the resort's own falconer. Our family will always treasure this trip with "Cappy," the family patriarch. Whether your travels take you near or far in the months to come, we wish you wonderful experiences, time with family and friends, and, perhaps, even a new perspective on life. So, this month, we have suggestions curated by our own staff based on extensive research and personal experience. (It was a tough job, but we were happy to oblige.) Editor-in-Chief Mia Park is just back from Mammoth Mountain's newly renovated Sierra Nevada Resort where, even in April, there was plenty of snow to go along with s'mores by the fireplace. Her daughter is now, officially, a skier! Weather forecasts and snowpack are such that spring and even summer skiing should be on your list. Managing Editor Deanna Murphy reports on a family vacation to the Four Seasons Resort Hualalai on the Big Island of Hawaii, rated the top resort in Hawaii by U.S. News & World Report. It is also the only Forbes Five- Star and AAA Five Diamond resort on that island. Not surprisingly, she and her family really liked it. Ron Donoho, our unofficial Las Vegas correspondent, experienced Resorts World Las Vegas — three resorts in one, with seven pools and 40 restaurants — a "front row seat," he writes, "to an epic and existential adventure." Donoho notes that Vegas has certainly changed since the days he and his buddies walked from the now shuttered Stardust to Circus Circus where they played $1 blackjack. Travel Editor Elizabeth Hansen drove to Palm Spring to experience e Spa at Séc-he, owned by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians. As the band's name suggests, water has long been at the center of tribal life, and now, spa guests can experience its power in nearly two dozen mineral baths and spa treatments along with vibration loungers and more. ranchandcoast.com 20 MAY 2023 RANCH & COAST MAGAZINE
