I also interview Elizabeth Scalice, who has closed Architectural Salvage, a Little Italy landmark for nearly three decades. e store, filled with bits and pieces of San Diego history — from fireplace mantels to window frames — has long been a resource for interior designers, architects, collectors, and homeowners trying to preserve pieces of the past. Scalice, who swam in the ames Marathon last summer, is moving on to new adventures in life, but will remain in San Diego. Warm white oak cabinets and striking marble with black-and-gold veining above the cooktop became the kitchen's focal point, while the peninsula was replaced with an expansive island, offering the family of four plenty of room to gather. Photography by Vincent Knakal on the cover Andrea Naversen, Editor-at-Large Instagram: @ranchandcoast A lthough I enjoy decking the halls for the holidays, I also love how my house looks when I finally take all the decorations down: clean, uncluttered, a fresh canvas for new ideas. So, I start thinking and tinkering, moving accessories around, swapping out evergreens in vases for botanicals that are more in keeping with the season. My husband insists we don't need more pillows, but I like to change them up and add a cozy throw or two for colder winter months. We are still working on the garage (a project I have written about in the past), sorting through boxes of books, tools, and memorabilia. Our job might be a little more efficient this year — we just bought a bunch of wire racks with wheels to organize what is left. In this, our annual Home Design Issue, we offer ideas and inspiration for your own projects, whether a refresh or a total renovation. In "Star Struck," I interview Los Angeles-based interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, whose client list reads like a celebrity "who's who," from the Kardashians to Elton John. Bullard just released a new book featuring gorgeous images of houses he has decorated over the years, including Cher's Malibu mansion and Tommy and Dee Hilfiger's Palm Beach estate. While most of us don't have multimillion dollar budgets for our own interior design projects, we all can dream, can't we? Closer to home, we feature the renovation of a 1960s- era ranch-style home in Olivenhain. Owners Michelle and Bobby Bradford teamed up with longtime friend Lauren Valletta of Valletta Design Group to remodel their kitchen and bathrooms, with more spaces to follow. And in "At Home with Bridgett & Craig Brown," we take a tour of the Browns' Mexican-Mission style house in Poway that has undergone several "renos" over the years.
