M Y MUDDLED MIND STARTED to clear the moment I boarded the Coaster train in Old Town. It was a sunny Wednesday morning and I needed a quick revitalizing getaway. Oceanside, just an hour from my home, ticked all my boxes with its promise of luxe lodgings, an intriguing food scene, historic architecture, vibrant art, and a walkable downtown. I once thought of Oceanside as a military town and pit stop along scenic Coast Highway, but the city of some 172,000 residents has gone through a metamorphosis and emerged as a popular leisure and business travel destination.
