Six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States sank four Japanese aircraft carriers at the Battle of Midway, losing only one of its own. Although less infamous than the events of December 7, 1941, the Battle of Midway, which took place over three days during the first week of June 1942, was even more decisive.
