Please join Publisher Bob Stefanko, Editor-in-Chief Mia Park, and our entire Ranch & Coast team at the Belly Up in Solana Beach on November 25 to celebrate the magazine's 60th anniversary as well as other milestones in our community. Here's to (at least) 60 more! PHOTO BY VINCENT KNAKAL Letter from the Editor We at Ranch & Coast Magazine are incredibly honored to be celebrating our 60th anniversary this year, and we thought it a perfect time to share this moment with others marking momentous anniversaries of their own. Please join us at the Belly Up Tavern (celebrating 50 years in 2024!) on November 25 for our special anniversary party. Visit ranchandcoast.com/anniversary for tickets and details Photography by Vincent Knakal on the cover Andrea Naversen, Editor-at-Large Instagram: @ranchandcoast H appy Anniversary! Ranch & Coast is marking its 60th birthday this year, providing readers with stories of fascinating people, places, the arts, culture, events, and entertainment over the past six decades. So, we decided to throw a party in these pages to celebrate some of the institutions, cultural and philanthropic organizations, resorts, restaurants, and an iconic sports venue, which are also enjoying milestones. Bill Abrams reports on the MCRD Museum in San Diego, named after the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, which has trained more than two million troops from World War II to current conflicts in the Middle East. Feel like "cruisin'"? Travel pro David Swanson, a former "cruise critic" for a national newspaper, offers an insiders' guide to sailing the seas, including a roundup of cruise lines, both new and tried-and-true, as well as ports of call. He shares valuable information that will be helpful when you decide to set sail. Contributor Ron Donoho takes it SLO, as in San Luis Obispo, which he discovers is far more than the home of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. From a cozy B&B, restos, and even a record shop recommended by Rolling Stone magazine, Donoho reports on a warm, friendly town that reminds him of longtime friends. Food & Beverage Editor Brandon Hernández dishes on Fairmont Grand Del Mar's Amaya, once an Italian- esque bistro which is now serving classic French cuisine including (my faves): coq au vin, bouillabaisse, escargot, and, of course, a decadent dessert au chocolat.
