By now, you're probably wondering how this newest Z4 might reward behind the wheel. e answer is splendid, a great balance between a light sport roadster like Mazda's MX5 Miata and Mercedes' AMG SL fast cruiser. Acceleration to 60MPH isn't mind-bending at 4.2 seconds, but it's more than quick enough to entertain those in control, and handling is nicely nimble. It's a roadster that inspires confidence and speaks with a reassuring growl when pushed a bit. And with the top up — a ten-second lever pull that can occur at slow speeds — you're able to turn up the Harmon Kardon sound and cruise. In addition to my driving episodes, that grueling task I call work, I brought the new Z4 to a car show to test its curb appeal. Even with two McLarens staged nearby, a rather unfair fight considering their six-figure window stickers, the BMW got plenty of attention with particular interest in the manual shift option.
