Shelter to Soldier
Shelter to Soldier is a 510c3 nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from local
rescues and shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs for post-
9/11 veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, and/
or Military Sexual Trauma. The program also places emotional support animals
with veterans and active duty military and deploys the Shelter to Soldier Canine
Ambassadors, a team of therapy dogs, to provide visits of love and comfort to local
military, veterans and their families. In their 12th year of impact, Shelter to Soldier has
30 resident dogs in training at their Oceanside training campus, with hundreds of
veterans served locally each month between their programs.
