A Historical Field Trip The Rancho Santa Fe Historical Society recently presented R. Roger Rowe third grade students with a hands-on approach to the history of Rancho Santa Fe. The students met with Cutter Clotfelter (President, RSFHS) and Kim Snyder (RSFHS board member), who walked with them to various historic points in the village where they received a lesson and treats related to the location. The children were also met by RSFHS board members who played the roles of "Colonel Ed Fletcher" (Sean Burgess), "Lilian Rice" (Terri Chivetta), and "Indiana Jones" (Chaco Clotfelter). They learned the story of how this master-planned community was developed and is still preserving its natural beauty 100 years later, from the early influence of the railroads and planting of eucalyptus trees to the Spanish Colonial Revival-themed homes and buildings and the engineering of Lake Hodges Dam. In addition to the tour, the students also participated in an art project at the La Flecha house.
