KPBS For 65 years KPBS has been providing essential services to San Diego and Imperial counties: fact-based local news that keeps people informed, emergency coverage that keeps communities safe, children's programming that prepares kids to succeed in school, and so much more. What began as a radio station broadcasting from a closet in 1960 has grown into the multi- platform, community-focused media organization the community relies on today. KPBS is a locally operated nonprofit organization, independent from influence. The majority of funding — 70% — comes from community donations. With the loss of federal funding, now KPBS must become fully community funded to remain accessible for everyone. With ongoing local support and friendship, KPBS will be here to serve San Diego for at least 65 years more. 5200 Campanile Drive San Diego, CA 92182 619.594.1515 | kpbs.org members@kpbs.org KPBS is essential Two million+ people read, watch and listen to KPBS for: • Fact-based, trustworthy local journalism, freely accessible to everyone • Exceptional educational programming like "Sesame Street" and "Wild Kratts" that prepares children to succeed in school • Critical emergency coverage of wildfires, earthquakes, floods and other crises • Local stories unique to San Diego • Literacy and lifelong learning through the community reading program, One Book, One San Diego Why your support matters: • Federal funding represented 12%, or $4.3 million, of KPBS' annual budget. KPBS is now more reliant on member support than ever before and will need help from the community to keep providing trusted news and programming San Diegans rely on.
