Uplifting Voices Voices for Children welcomed guests to its annual Uplifting Voices fundraiser, an afternoon of inspiration supporting youth in foster care through the advocacy of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs). Attendees heard from Emanuel, who shared the lasting impact of caring, consistent adults during uncertain times, and board member Joshua Kim, a former foster parent who reflected on the importance of dependable support. Guests were also moved by e New York Times bestselling author Dion Leonard and his loyal companion Gobi, whose story of endurance and unexpected friendship underscored how steadfast support can transform a life. Katie Holmes led the production in the title role, bringing nuance to Ibsen's complex heroine in a new adaptation by Erin Cressida Wilson and under the direction of Barry Edelstein. Featuring an original score by Pulitzer Prize- winning composer Caroline Shaw, the production ran through March 15 on the Donald and Darlene Shiley Stage in Balboa Park, earning acclaim for its powerful performances and fresh interpretation of the classic drama.
