I t's a rare and special thing when global success circles back to uplift a local community, and the Switchfoot Bro-Am is a perfect example. I'm incredibly grateful to have co-founded the giving movement with the members of Switchfoot, two of whom, like me, also graduated from San Dieguito High School. What began as a vision in 2005 has grown into an iconic, feel-good weekend that blends surf, music, and philanthropy with unmistakable San Diego spirit. Now celebrating its 22nd year, the Bro-Am reflects the best of what makes our community so unique: generosity, creativity, and a deep-rooted sense of place. It's become an annual summer tradition, putting North County on the map as a destination for supporters near and far. I hope you'll consider attending this year's Benefit Party ( June 11 at Viasat) and Beach Fest ( June 13 at Moonlight Beach) to experience Bro-Am's spirit firsthand. at same sense of place is what makes San Diego so extraordinary to call home. We live where much of the world vacations. With near-perfect weather year-round (it's appropriately "72 and sunny" as I write this), an effortless coastal lifestyle, and a remarkable range of landscapes — from beaches and lagoons to mountains and desert — our region offers a variety most destinations can't match. A five-minute drive can take you from a morning surf check to a world-class brunch, while a short coastal cruise opens the door to luxury resorts, championship golf, destination spas, and Michelin-recognized dining. Perhaps what defines San Diego most is the ease with which we can enjoy it all. Whether it's checking into a seaside suite in Del Mar, unwinding at Carlsbad's many resorts (see page 70), exploring La Jolla's natural beauty (our cover features e Lodge at Torrey Pines, which offers hotel guests complimentary guided nature walks to Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve), or rediscovering downtown's energy around Petco Park, (Go Padres!), PHOTO BY BOB STEFANKO each pocket of the county offers its own distinct escape. Add in a thriving culinary scene, cultural institutions, and a calendar full of events, and it becomes clear: You don't have to go far to feel transported. Here, the getaway is built into everyday life. Yet as much as we celebrate the beauty in our own backyard, we also know the pull of a well-planned escape. If you're longing to travel beyond San Diego this summer, this issue has you covered. Editor-at-Large Andrea Naversen explores the Four Seasons Resort Lanai, Jon Bailey highlights a thoughtfully curated Seattle getaway where luxury and sustainability go hand in hand, and Ron Donoho revisits the return of Las Vegas' most extravagant buffets. Consider this your guide to traveling well — near or far. Letter from the Editor Mia Park, Editor-in-Chief A.R.
