Immunotherapy Foundation
In 2014, facing metastatic cancer recurrence, Ralph Whitworth and his wife
Fernanda funded novel cancer immunotherapy research at UCSD Moores Cancer
Center and the La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI). Inspired by its promise,
the Whitworths founded Immunotherapy Foundation (IF), a 501(c)3 non-profit
organization to accelerate better therapies for cancer patients and embarked on
a $6M campaign to bring personalized immunotherapies to San Diego. Since
inception, IF has co-fundraised nearly $5.1 million for collaborative research between
UCSD and LJI, returning over $22 million in additional grants to these institutions. Its
milestones include seeding the IF Advanced Cell Therapy Laboratory at UCSD and
advancing two personalized immunotherapies into phase 1 clinical trials. IF's work to
accelerate research into new therapies holds promise for cancer patients everywhere.
