Shelter to Soldier Shelter to Soldier is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from local rescue organizations and shelters and trains them to become psychiatric service dogs for post-9/11 combat veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress (PTS), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), and other injuries associated with traumatic service experiences. The program also places Emotional Support Animals (ESAs) with qualifying active duty military personnel and veterans, and deploys their Shelter to Soldier Canine Ambassadors (therapy dog team) in the community to provide visits of love and comfort to active duty military, veterans, and their families. 2366 Front St. San Diego, CA 92101 760.870.5338 sheltertosoldier.org • Every day, we lose an average of 20 U.S. veterans to suicide • Every day, an average of 1,800 dogs are euthanized in our nation • Post-9/11 combat veterans suffering from invisible wounds related to traumatic service experiences are encouraged to apply directly at sheltertosoldier.org • Service dogs can increase the handler's sense of safety, improve engagement, build self confidence, increase the desire to be out in public, and provide a sense of purpose • Shelter to Soldier relies on the support from the community to execute its mission. Exclusive sponsorship opportunities allow for direct engagement in the journey of a veteran/service dog team G I V I N G G U I D E PHOTO BY ALLISON SHAMRELL PET PHOTOGRAPHY @sheltertosoldier Shelter to Soldier @shelter2soldier @ranchandcoast ranchandcoast.com 22 DECEMBER 2021 RANCH & COAST MAGAZINE
