haven't changed a bit. At the ballpark location there are no special orders, so if you don't like something, you'll have to remove it yourself. e key to a Hodad's burger is the fresh onion, and there's plenty of it. Hodad's is the only dedicated burger stand in the park, with several locations throughout, near Sections 300, 228, 131, and my go-to at Section 104. I usually stop by the Belle Glos Wine Cellar next door for a glass of pinot to go with it. Near the ballpark in Little Italy, Ironside Fish & Oyster recently reopened after a brief closure for a remodel. Along with a refreshed dining room, the kitchen was completely revamped with shiny, state-of-the-art equipment including a Josper grill, which brings live wood-fired cooking and charring into the mix. Veteran chef Jason McLeod (the original chef from 2014) is back at the helm after a couple of years out of state. Two standouts: the Clams Casino — cherry stone clams topped I speak for every Padres fan when I say: Yay, it's baseball season! e energy downtown is palpable — restaurants are buzzing, fans are donning their brown and gold (or the gorgeous new City Connect colors), and hotels are brimming with out-of-town visitors. Petco Park is consistently voted "America's Best Ballpark," and it's no wonder. It's famous for our perfect weather, the gorgeous views, and, of course, the food. I make it to about half of the home games (and a few away games), and I can confidently say our ballpark fare is far and away the best there is. I'll be sharing my favorites in this column in the coming months, along with where to find them in the park. First up: a Hodad's burger.
