On the night of June 5-6, 1944, during the parachute drop of Airborne troops in the area of Sainte-Mère-Église, Private John Steele was hit in the foot by a burst of flak. He could not control his parachute and landed on the steeple of the church around 1am military | community | family | pets Focus and the significant military installations around San Diego Bay. Until then, I'd only known the civilian Midwest and Veterans Day was just a day that schools, banks and some businesses were closed. I moved to San Diego from a landlocked suburb in the Midwest. We had a sweet little river that was great for ice skating in winter, but nary a drop of salt water nearby.
