Since then, Campbell and her family have been supporting e Moore's Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health in La Jolla, headed up by Director Dr. Diane Simeone, who founded PRECEDE, e Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection Consortium. is worldwide network of leading medical centers shares research and resources designed to detect pancreatic cancer early and increase survival rates. PRECEDE has enrolled more than 10,000 people considered at risk of developing the disease, with a goal of enrolling 20,000. e sooner people are diagnosed, the sooner they can be treated with drugs including Daraxonrasib, an oral cancer therapy considered so promising that oncologists from around the world gave it a standing ovation at a conference last spring in Chicago. e drug and others in development aren't cures but can increase survival rates when compared with chemotherapy alone. At press time, Campbell, Sims, and their family were preparing for the ird Annual Allison Campbell Fomon Early Detection for Pancreatic Cancer Fundraiser on August 29 in their poolside backyard. "It's a celebration in honor of Allie," says Campbell. "It keeps her memory alive." She also hopes that proceeds, which benefit the PRECEDE Consortium, will eventually save lives and spare families the heartbreak of losing loved ones. "For our family, supporting PRECEDE is ultimately about hope — hope that the work being done today will mean that other families in the future will have the opportunity for earlier detection, better treatment, and most importantly, more time with the people they love," says Campbell. In the backyard garden, a Hong Kong orchid tree planted by a family friend in Allie's memory holds "the most special place" in Campbell's heart. "I look out at Allie's tree several times each day, and it brings me tremendous comfort," she reflects. "It is often covered with beautiful pink flowers throughout the year, making it a lovely and constant presence in our garden." e tree bears a simple plaque: "In loving memory of Allison Campbell Fomon 1981-2023."
