The Garden Party San Diego Botanic Garden presented its annual fundraiser to raise funds to support its critical science, conservation, and education programs. Attendees enjoyed live music along with samplings from some of the area's best restaurants. e event also honored Mary Matava with the 2024 Paul Ecke Jr. Award of Excellence. Agronomist and founder of Agri Service, Matava's commitment to environmental sustainability has helped keep over 2.5 million tons of methane-producing organics out of landfills and contributed to improving carbon sequestration in local soils. Named after the late legendary San Diego County horticulturist, the Paul Ecke Jr. Award of Excellence pays tribute to individuals who have demonstrated unparalleled contributions to the field of plant cultivation. Hillman's book describes the formative years when he joined Roger McGuinn, David Crosby, Gene Clark, and Michael Clarke to form e Byrds. e band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
