Nature Collective Fall Events Nature Collective is hosting several free fall nature events this month. On Saturday, October 5, discover the beauty of San Elijo Lagoon, where fresh water and saltwater meet and mix, migratory and resident birds share a sanctuary, and many animals find a home. This guided Discovery Tour will inspire all to watch and listen for various birds that rest in — and fly across — the salt marsh and mudflats. Family Fun Day on Sunday, October 6, is best suited for children nine years old and younger, featuring hands-on activities including craft-making and animal encounters. Participants will explore the variety of sea life that call the San Elijo Lagoon and nearby ocean home. On Saturday, October 12, a Wildlife Tour is offered for adults who might search prickly pear cactus for cochineal, a tiny insect that produces the brilliant red dye used to brighten everything from lipstick to yogurt to artists' paints. The next day, on Sunday, October 13, Fall Festival offers attendees the chance to discover that nature's creepy crawlies aren't as spooky as they seem. Get creative and join the costume contest with fun themes like "Most Creative" and "Most Environmentally Friendly." Finally, on Saturday, October 19, a Volunteer Restoration Event will take place to restore precious habitats within the San Elijo Lagoon Ecological Reserve and the surrounding areas. From removing invasive plants to helping grow native plants indigenous to the area, participants will help nature thrive, which benefits wildlife and our communities. naturecollective.org MEOW Michael is a silly, sweet Domestic Short Hair who can't wait to find a family to call his own.
