Fruitful Vet Visits As a pet parent whose fur babies were terrified of going to the vet, Clayton Webb believed veterinary care could be better, and in talking with friends and family who had similar experiences, she realized she wasn't alone. So, Webb set out to create a new veterinary encounter. It resulted in Papaya Pet in Pacific Highlands Ranch, a vet clinic with a mission to reduce every pet's fear, anxiety, and stress. "We put the pet perspective first," says Webb. "We've thought through every detail to ensure that the pet's experience is one of the best. We keep an emotional record of your pet to create a custom experience plan that allows us to be ready with their favorite treats or toys." To carry out Webb's vision, the clinic has a separate entrance for highly reactive or sensitive dogs, a separate exam room for cats, pheromone diffusers to promote a stress-free environment, and treats all along the way. A range of membership levels match each pet's stage in life and unique needs, with Papaya Plus or Premium plans available to offer extra benefits including faster turnaround times and access to telehealth. "Our hope is that the memberships allow pets to come into the clinic more as they help make more visits and services attainable," says Webb. The concept is quickly expanding, with another clinic set to open in Mission Valley and an emergency pet hospital on the horizon in Encinitas. papayapet.com MIA PARK PAPAYA PET CARE: COURTESY PHOTO MEOW Bella is a 15-year-old Domestic Short Hair whose previous owner says with a little patience and persistence Bella will overcome her shyness.
