La Jolla's Community Gallery A newcomer joins the gallery-rich art hub E'RE INTERESTED IN creating a community of people from the bottom up who have a positive experience with art," says Barbara Freeman, who founded BFree Studio 15 months ago on Girard Avenue, a short block from Prospect Street. e gallery provides an environment where emerging and mid-career artists, most of them local, have a space to showcase their artwork and engage with the community. e exhibitions are short, often only two weeks, and have provided a platform for unique shows including mother/daughter and teacher/student art. During their exhibition, the artist gives a talk or painting classes and is available at the gallery, which also hosts salons and musical events.
