San Diego Humane Society (SDHS) is doing more for animals and people throughout San Diego County than ever before. As an open-admission shelter and the animal services provider for 14 local cities (including nine in North County), SDHS cares for more than 40,000 pets and wildlife each year — and supports thousands of pet families. As one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the country, SDHS is a national leader in developing programs to save more animals — including those with serious medical and behavioral needs. To ensure San Diego County "Stays at Zero" euthanasia of healthy or treatable shelter animals, SDHS has developed innovative signature programs, including their Pilar & Chuck Bahde Center for Shelter Medicine, Behavior Center and Jim Lester Kitten Nursery & Foster Center. SDHS also provides a safety net for pet families in need, offering free pet food, assistance with veterinary care, and other support services.
