World premiere performances on November 14 and 18 are part of the inaugural California Festival, a two-week program highlighting new music with 95 participating arts organizations across the state. November 14 features a world premiere piano quartet composed by 17-year-old Mainly Mozart Youth Orchestra trombonist Edric Saphire and performed by members from the San Diego Symphony and renowned pianist Anne-Marie McDermott. Night two of Genius Week on November 17 will recognize 2023 San Diego Genius Honoree Dr. David Brenner, president/CEO of Sanford Burnham Prebys. Night three on November 18 features the Mainly Mozart-commissioned world premiere of "Tapestry" by acclaimed composer Clarice Assad. mainlymozart.org/genius Veterans Day Ceremony NOVEMBER 11 | MT. SOLEDAD NATIONAL VETERANS MEMORIAL The Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial will mark this year's Veterans Day with a ceremony honoring our nation's veterans and commemorating the 50th anniversary of the withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Vietnam War. The event will feature two highly decorated veterans who served in Vietnam: former United States Attorney Robert S. Brewer, Jr. and retired U.S. Navy Commander and former Prisoner of War Henry James Bedinger. As an official partner of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, an initiative authorized by Congress, the ceremony will honor the service and sacrifice of all veterans and their families, with special recognition paid to Vietnam-era veterans, Prisoners of War, and those still Missing in Action. The group is hosting a fundraiser for Carlsbad resident Layla Mahoney, an eight-year-old brain cancer patient at Rady Children's Hospital. Taking place from 4-9pm, the event will feature two entertainment areas with live music by Sunday Morning Sidewalk at 5pm and a screening of Top Gun: Maverick at 7pm.
