Empowered WE Rise SEPTEMBER 22 | FARMER & THE SEAHORSE Women's Empowerment International presents an afternoon celebrating 20 years of grantmaking. Guests will enjoy food, drinks, live music, inspirational programming featuring messages from WE founders and funding partners, and a keynote address from Nancy Maldonado, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Rady Children's Hospital. In addition, attendees will also hear a special message from Linda L. Katz, the recipient of WE's 2024 Woman of Empowerment Award, who is the founding president of The San Diego Women's Foundation and co-founder of Women Give San Diego. Hosted by actor Ted Lange of The Love Boat television series, the event includes entertainment, refreshments, and silent and live auctions. The gala honors Ralph Johnson with the second annual Kathy Brombacher Lifetime Theater Achievement Award and CJ DiMento with the inaugural Hattie "Sunshine" Brooks Award for elevating and enhancing the arts in Oceanside. 760.433.8900, oceansidetheatre.org/love-boat-gala Champions of Scouting Celebration SEPTEMBER 28 | USS MIDWAY MUSEUM The San Diego-Imperial Council of Scouting America will pay tribute to Ronne Froman-Blue and Linden Blue at its annual Champions of Scouting Celebration. The event honors San Diego leaders who support and embody the values of Scouting and recognize the positive impacts resulting from its youth leadership and community service programs. As Commander of the United States Navy Region Southwest, Froman-Blue was San Diego's first female "Navy Mayor." After a distinguished 31-year career in the Navy, she retired in 2001 with the rank of Rear Admiral. Following her military service, she served as the Chief of Business Operations for the San Diego Unified School District, Chief Executive Officer for the local chapter of the American Red Cross, and as the City of San Diego's first Chief Operating Officer. Blue is the Vice Chairman of General Atomics. In 2009, he was inducted into San Diego's Entrepreneur Hall of Fame, and in 2010 the Industrial Research Institute presented him with the IRI Achievement Award and he was inducted into the International Air and Space Hall of Fame at the San Diego Air & Space Museum. Guests will enjoy Oaxacan cuisine prepared by Chef José Cepeda and his team at the Lafayette's restaurant, Quixote. Entertainment will include the close-up magic of Greg Wilson and dancing to the music of Ruby and the Red Hots. There will be both live and silent auctions, and guests will also have the opportunity to meet and hear from Brenlu Pineda, who grew up in rural Mexico and knows firsthand the challenges that Ecolife addresses.
