THE KITCHEN AT MCASD: PHOTO COURTESY OF URBAN KITCHEN GROUP What's New Hospitality duo Tracy Borkum and Chef/Partner Tim Kolanko of Urban Kitchen Group (Michelin Bib Gourmand Cucina Urbana, Artifact at Mingei, Gold Finch) has officially launched a new dinner service and happy hour at The Kitchen, which opened in early 2023 at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla. Amid panoramic ocean views, the new dinner menu, offered Wednesday through Saturday beginning at 4pm, makes the most of the Mediterranean region's lavish flavors through new à la carte entrees and shared plates highlighting local producers and seasonal ingredients. Highlights include steamed sea bass wrapped in Swiss chard, Lebanese seven spice roasted chicken, Mediterranean filet mignon, summer corn torchio pasta, yellowtail crudo, grilled apricot, and more. The Kitchen's new sunset happy hour from 3 to 5pm features inspired sips and bites starting at $6. La Valencia Hotel has announced the appointment of Executive Chef Alex Pailles to lead the culinary program. Chef Pailles, a San Diego native, brings a wealth of culinary expertise from his nearly decade-long tenure at The Marine Room, where he rose to the position of chef de cuisine. A graduate of the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu in Los Angeles, Pailles further honed his skills in Barcelona at Michelin-Starred Xerta Restaurant under Chef Fran López, a protégé of the legendary Alain Ducasse. Chef Pailles will reimagine the California coastal cuisine for the Mediterranean Room, the Med Patio, and the La Sala lobby bar. Drawing on his Mexican heritage and his mother's influence as a professional pastry chef, Pailles will infuse the menus with innovative techniques and vibrant flavors that celebrate San Diego's local bounty. The Spa at Torrey Pines has just launched a brand-new menu of spa treatments inspired by The Lodge at Torrey Pines' natural coastal surroundings and indigenous plant life, and incorporating botanical and marine-based products including: new premium massages such as the Coastal Stone Massage, Aromatherapy Massage and CBD Therapeutic Massage; new body exfoliating treatments like the Coastal Citrus Scrub and Seaside Glow; body wraps such as the Detoxifying Marine Wrap; and new skincare therapies like the Diamond Brightening Facial and SkinCeuticals Skin Renewal Facial.
