S till trying to figure out where to vacation this summer? How about a getaway just an hour away (or less), in Orange County? I found a variety of accommodations, restaurants, and experiences along South Coast Highway from Laguna Beach to Newport Beach. My first stop was e Ranch at Laguna Beach, a rustic, 87-acre eco-resort nestled in the Aliso and Wood Canyons, once the home of indigenous people and later, early pioneers. In 1871, the urston family established a homestead on 152 acres and began growing melons and other crops. e Ranch is now home to Laguna Beach's only nine-hole golf course, and 97 guest rooms in buildings scattered around the property including the pentagon- shaped "Tree House," the former home of the course's founder and now the presidential suite. I checked in at the lodge, which houses the Harvest Restaurant and Bar, helmed by Executive Chef Kyle St. John. Guests are treated to a farm-to-fork menu, fresh seafood, and grilled meats in a handsome dining room centered with a fireplace as well as outside on the terrace. ere's also space to gather 'round fire tables on e Porch, overlooking the course and canyons, for sunset socials featuring light bites, live music, and libations including the "Fairway Drop," composed of vodka, house-made strawberry simple syrup, and fresh lemon. Golf isn't my game, but I loved cruising the perimeter of the course in a golf cart to explore the half-acre organic farm where Farmer Ryan and his team grow rows of flowers and vegetables and tend a flock of chickens. e farm harvests a ton of seasonal produce each year used in the Harvest Restaurant, whether eggs for the daily, From the Ranch to the Coast Head to the O.C. for sun, fun, fine dining, and more BY ANDREA NAVERSEN detour destinations Redesigned guest rooms and suites at Surf & Sand Laguna Beach feature private balconies with stunning views of sand and sky COURTESY PHOTOGRAPHY ranchandcoast.com 90 JULY 2026 RANCH & COAST MAGAZINE
