I LONGED FOR A BREAK THIS PAST summer: sun, swimming pools, toes in the sand, and a frosty, fruity cocktail or two. But I didn't feel like venturing too far from home. en came an invitation to explore the Conrad Punta de Mita, a new luxury resort in Mexico's Riviera Nayarit on the Pacific Coast north of Puerto Vallarta. As it turned out, it was just what I needed — a quick getaway where I could rest, relax, unwind, and do as much (or as little) as I wanted. Conrad Punta de Mita is an easy plane ride from Lindbergh Field, and then about 45 minutes by car to Nayarit. e 12-acre oceanfront resort, which opened just two years ago, is part of a private, guard-gated community that includes a golf course and vacation homes. e resort hosted the cast of e Real Housewives of Beverly Hills earlier this year, as well as the final episodes of e Bachelorette in 2021. Upon arrival, resort staff welcomed me with a refreshing cocktail in the lobby, one of the most stunning I have ever seen, with soaring ceilings, contemporary furnishings, and indigenous Huichol artwork. Before checking in, I paused to take in the view that stretched before me: lush landscaping, meandering swimming pools, oceanfront accommodations, and a two-mile stretch of beach. For the next three days, I spent languid hours floating in the adults-only pool with its swim-up bar or gazing at the ocean from a chaise in the infinity pool. Kids, young and old(er), splashed about in the family pool with its popular water slide. A Kids' Club nearby, catering to toddlers on up, and a game room with a pool table and ping-pong for teens make the resort a wonderful option for multi-generational travel. Activities include tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, horseback riding on the beach, boogie boarding, and boating. Conrad Punta de Mita has multiple venues for dining, drinking, and celebrating. Tuki, the colorful lobby lounge with a terrace overlooking the resort, takes its name from the word "temple" in the Huichol language. It offers craft beer, wine, and cocktails inspired by regional art and culture along with inventive small bites. I got the toes-in-the-sand experience I longed for at the open-air Mezquite restaurant right on the beach, cooled by ocean breezes.
