What's New The earth is quite literally moving in preparation for the new Joan and Irwin Jacobs Performing Arts Center at Arts District Liberty Station. A groundbreaking ceremony took place just last month for The Joan, as it will be known, which is anticipated to open in 2025. The space will be a contemporary, permanent home for Cygnet Theatre and is planned to be a cultural hub, hosting live performances and creating a robust new destination for the arts in San Diego. Announced in 2022, The Joan will be the next life for the historic Naval Building 178, which will undergo dramatic renovation, reconstruction, and restoration to its exterior as well as become two state-of-the-art theatre spaces: a 289-seat proscenium theatre and a 150-seat flexible studio space. Of the project's $43.5 million price tag, $31.6 million has already been raised. Cygnet and Arts District's NTC Foundation will rely on philanthropic donations to raise the remaining funds. What's Now This month is synonymous with love, so naturally, special dinner experiences and prix fixe menus abound in honor of Valentine's Day, and just like our favorite rom-coms, they always feature the best sweet endings. Herb & Sea in Encinitas will present a four-course menu starring entrée options of filet, lobster gnocchi, and truffle risotto. L'Auberge Del Mar's Adelaide sets the romance meter to "high" with not just a four-course dinner, but the opportunity to add a "With Love, L'Auberge" package stay that includes rose petals in the guestroom plus fresh macaroons, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a bottle of Moët & Chandon Imperial Brut.
