It's possible that some may be reticent to take a Jaguar plunge because of the brand's less than stellar quality reputation. However, the F-Type models have been pretty highly rated in that regard, and Jaguar's basic warranty is five years and 60,000 miles, in contrast with its many rivals' four-year, 50,000-mile coverage. And, this is the last growling cat you can buy before all Jaguars purr with electricity. Front-engine, all-wheel-drive 5.0-liter Supercharged V8 575 @ 6,500 RPM 516 lb.ft. @ 3,500 RPM $115,000 $119,875 16 city 24 highway 18 combined TYPE: ENGINE: HORSEPOWER: TORQUE: BASE PRICE: AS TESTED: FUEL CONSUMPTION: 2024 Jaguar F-Type R75 Convertible F-Type Jaguar convertibles start at a reasonable $79,900 MSRP for the P450 R-Dynamic and jump to $90,517 for the 75 edition, a trim level that adds all-wheel drive and celebrates the 75 years that have passed since the XK120 was unveiled. Both are powered with supercharged, 5.0-liter V8 engines that produce 450 horses and a nice growl. Our R75 edition ups the big V8's output to 575 HP, with even more sonic amusement for the few who find 450 not quite enough. It also ups the MSRP to $115,000 for the voluptuously equipped Jaguar. e fun begins when you enter the nicely appointed cockpit and notice the starter button beckoning with its red winking light. A light button push is rewarded with the thunderous snarl of all those horses while the center air vents arise from the top of the dashboard. It's all good theater that rewards some of the treasure you've spent for the joy of ownership. e driving experience is just as amusing, with reasonably quick reflexes for this luxury touring roadster. e Meridian sound system is quite good, although it's best experienced when parked since the exhaust pipes want to chime in and soft top convertibles are notoriously unquiet at highway speeds. Jaguar's user interface, contained in a 12.3-inch screen, is improved from previous versions though not class-leading, but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto both integrate nicely. @ranchandcoast RANCH & COAST MAGAZINE FEBRUARY 2024 79
