San Diego Humane Society (SDHS) is committed to making San Diego the best place to be an animal, or to have one. As an open-admission shelter and the animal services provider for 14 local cities — including nine in North County — SDHS cares for more than 40,000 pets and wildlife each year while supporting thousands of pet families. Under the leadership of Dr. Gary Weitzman, SDHS has maintained a zero-euthanasia rate for healthy or treatable shelter animals for more than a decade. His vision has driven the development of innovative, nationally recognized programs in shelter and community medicine, behavior and training, kitten and foster care, safety net services for pet owners, and wildlife rehabilitation. At its core, SDHS's work is about changing lives — for animals and the people who love them. As one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the country, SDHS is proud to serve as a national leader and Create a More Humane San Diego®.
