I t's the beginning of a new year, a fresh opportunity to continue to evolve. At Ranch & Coast, we're embarking upon our 62nd year of serving the community, and we're incredibly grateful to have the platform to shine a light on the very best of San Diego — those whose efforts make our corner of the globe the ideal place in which to live, work, and play. In this issue, we celebrate excellence in many forms — from the individuals who lead their respective industries to the behind-the-scenes changemakers working to make a difference. For our cover story, photographed at Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa, Managing Editor Deanna Murphy interviews Irma Peñuñuri, CEO and founder of BurgerRock Media, a Latina-owned PR and creative agency that works across fashion, entertainment, and brand building, who's now turning her focus toward San Diego's business landscape. Murphy also connects with Marsha Selzer, sports massage therapist extraordinaire, whose impressive career nearing the five-decade mark has nurtured the health of premier athletes from around the world. Contributing Editor Bill Abrams revisits a prior discussion with Dominique Plewes, chair of the Special Operations Forces Support Foundation, this time regarding her mission to strengthen the bridge between congress and the military. And I connect with John Mlynczak, president and CEO of NAMM (e National Association of Music Merchants), the largest global nonprofit music trade organization that is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, with e NAMM Show slated this month. On the culinary excellence front, Editor-at-Large Andrea Naversen visits Steak 48 co-founders Jeff and Jodi Mastro at their charming Coronado vacation home to learn about their design aesthetic, personal passions, and their philanthropic hearts. Food & Beverage Editor Brandon Hernández explores the new Mia's in Solana Beach, and PHOTO BY BOB STEFANKO Food Editor-at-Large Terryl Gavre shares her monthly dining diary of favorite dishes and experiences worth noting. As always, our Seen pages offer meaningful recaps of fundraisers and fêtes, including e Arc of San Diego's Winter Wonderland fashion show and luncheon and e Country Friends' annual Holiday Tea, where I was photographed above with fellow attendee Judy Rowles (left). Looking ahead, we invite you to stay connected with us as we grow our print, social media, and digital platforms, including our award-winning newsletters. Here's to a bright 2026 for us all.
