W hen Selena Michele launched her eponymous firm, her design differentiator was clear: Create homes that favor restraint over spectacle. Today, the Carlsbad-based designer is known for interiors where sculptural forms, tactile materials, and original details do the talking — and whispering. Working throughout San Diego and beyond, Selena Michele Interiors creates contemporary spaces that are quiet in color but rich in character. Curves soften architectural angles, while natural stone, hand-applied finishes, and vintage discoveries introduce depth and individuality. "Striking that perfect balance between hard and soft, angled and curved, and masculine and feminine is what makes a space feel well resolved and balanced to me," Michele says. Her palette draws from nature: creamy whites, earthy olives, terracottas, and rich browns. Rather than rely on bold color, Michele layers textures, mixed metals, and complementary wood tones. Materials that age gracefully are essential, from expressive marble to unlacquered brass. As a mother of two boys, Michele also believes beautiful homes should accommodate real life. "If a home feels like real life can happen there, like nothing is too precious, and you could imagine happy memories being made throughout the years in that space, I've done my job," she says. Her favorite San Diego sources include Comman Goods and Apostrophe Home for vintage finds, Tile Collective for handcrafted tile, and El Arte for custom furnishings. She also champions local artists Lauren Bencivengo, Kelsey Overstreet, Parker Heath, and Katie Krauter, whose work brings an unmistakably human touch to her interiors. selenamichele.com BYAUTHORNAMEHERE Indulge dining THE ART OF RESTRAINT Carlsbad interior designer Selena Michele creates homes with quiet drama BY GILLIAN FLYNN | PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHARLOTTE LEA PHOTOGRAPHY Selena Michele's singular approach to elevated restraint is seen across multiple projects.
