What's Now Even when the Friars are away, the folks at Petco Park know how to bring in the crowds for a good party. Returning this year after a spectacular 2022 debut is Dinner on the Diamond, a first- class ticket to dining on the field with Padres stars past and present, with all the evening's proceeds benefiting the Padres Foundation and its partner charities. On May 18, the red carpet will roll out onto the pristine grass for guests to take in an evening of dinner and entertainment from headliners Ja Rule and Ashanti. padres.com/dinner Then, on May 26, while the Padres are on the road in the Bronx, beer lovers will take over the No. 1 ballpark in the U.S. from 3-8pm at the BeerFest On-Field Party. Fest-goers will enjoy craft beers from local and national brewers while live music plays in the outfield and the Padres vs. Yankees game streams on the jumbotron. Food and additional beverages including wine and cocktails will be available on the main concourse, and a VIP ticketing option adds express lane entry, a VIP lounge and VIP beer selections, and other perks over the general entry ticket admission and Beerfest hat. padres.com/events Trevor and Tracy Hoffman DINNER ON THE DIAMOND: PHOTO BY MATT THOMAS/SAN DIEGO PADRES/GETTY IMAGES What's Next Because there's no such thing as too many rooftop pools and new hotel concepts, two new choices await vacationers and staycationers looking for some urban sun- soaking this summer. Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter, slated to open mid-July, is the brand's first city-center location on the West Coast, its island-style resort vibes redefining the phrase "urban oasis." Steps from Petco Park, the hotel has 235 guest rooms and suites, plus a rooftop deck touted as San Diego's largest, with views of Petco Park and the 5 o'Clock Somewhere Bar ready to serve an array of margaritas (naturally), "boat drinks," and more. The hotel's LandShark Bar & Grill will serve favorites including the signature LandShark burger, which can, of course, be washed down with a Landshark Lager, and live music will round out the island vacation tableau. margaritavilleresorts.com Meanwhile, this February, the chic, 147-room AC Hotel San Diego Downtown Gaslamp Quarter made its own entry on the San Diego landscape, but its Techo Beso rooftop bar and restaurant wasn't quite ready for prime time — and with a succession of atmospheric rivers tainting our normally storybook SoCal weather rep, it probably wasn't the worst thing. However, Techo Beso is now poised to debut later this month, just in time for summer. Literally translating to "rooftop kiss," Techo Beso is inspired by the energy of Tulum, Mexico, and will serve a selection of hand-crafted cocktails and small plates, adjoined to the pool deck just a few steps up by an elevated DJ station, with an additional terrace bar and lounge area above the pool providing even more expansive city views. techobeso.com DEANNA MURPHY Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter Techo Beso @ranchandcoast RANCH & COAST MAGAZINE MAY 2023 35
