doing carnitas before pig was popular and has distilled the ballpark menu down to the essentials: tacos, nachos, loaded tater tots, and sometimes even a bacon-wrapped carnitas hot dog. You really can't go wrong with any of these elevated ballpark classics. On a side note, my college-age kids drink NA (non-alcoholic) beverages, and I'm happy to report there are plenty of NA options throughout Petco Park. You can order an NA cocktail at any bar, and most concession stands carry NA beer. Look for AleSmith NA IPA at all Craft Beer locations (Sections 103, 114, 226, and 300), or Elysian Easy Dust at Seaside Market (Section 105), the Membership Bar, and Gallagher Square. Nova Kombucha Sunrise Slam (also NA) is available at Seaside Market, too. T here are restaurants we chase because they're new and trendy, and then there are the ones we keep returning to because they never let us down. More than a decade after opening, Catania still earns a place in my regular rotation. is veteran is one of my all-time favorites. Give me a sunny afternoon, a seat on the rooftop patio, and an order of the Smoked Duck Liver Crostini, and I'll be what is known as OOO for the rest of the day. A hefty slice of grilled country bread is slathered with smoked duck liver mousse and topped with a "salad" of dressed parsley, chopped dates, golden raisins, currants, almonds, and pickled shallots. Every bite is creamy, crunchy, sweet, sharp, and smoky all at the same time, quietly reminding me why Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat became required reading for young chefs. I've known chef Hanis Cavin for nearly 30 years — we both came up in the business together — and for my Petco Park pick this month, I must most strenuously recommend stopping by his Carnitas Snack Shack in Section 130 (left field) or Section 319 (right field) for a carnitas burrito.
