Jo Makwana Thirty years ago, Captain Jo Makwana moved to the United States from England and made La Jolla her home. At 39, she began her journey with the San Diego Police Department, launching a 17-year career dedicated to serving the community. Throughout her tenure, she has served on patrol in Mid-City and Southeastern Division and held assignments in Child Abuse, Vice Investigations, and the Gang Intervention Unit. Now promoted to Captain of Northern Division, she leads one of the city's largest and most diverse commands, spanning coastal communities, major employment hubs, and rapidly growing neighborhoods. Captain Makwana is an honoree at the San Diego Police Foundation's Women in Blue "Heart of Service" Luncheon. The Women in Blue movement recognizes female trailblazers in public safety, celebrating their impact while advancing inclusion, leadership, and the representation of women at every rank of policing.
