Where others see nature, Shanan Campanaro sees wallpaper — along with rugs, breezy textiles, and a lifestyle. Her goal is to convey a spirit of place, whether inspired by poolside plumeria in Costa Rica or recent sunsets over Swami's. Since launching two decades ago in Brooklyn, the artist and surfer has blended original watercolors with eco-friendly techniques to create celeb-approved wallcoverings, high-end fabrics, and hand-knotted luxury rugs. Today, her full library of over 800 patterns is on view at the Eskayel West Coast showroom in Encinitas — a sun-drenched studio and event space complete with a wallpapered DJ booth. Campanaro recently relocated to North County with her husband and business partner, Nick Chacona. Together, they transformed a former optometrist's office on E Street into a design-led sanctuary featuring whitewashed concrete floors and exposed ceilings. "It was important to me that the showroom feel timeless rather than brand- new or over-designed," says Campanaro, floating through the space in a baby blue sundress. "We were going for the relaxed charm of a Pugliese villa."
