12th Annual "Be the Light" Gala AUGUST 18 | L'AUBERGE DEL MAR Shelter to Soldier, a nonprofit organization that adopts dogs from local shelters and trains them to become service dogs for post-9/11 veterans suffering from PTSD, TBI, military sexual trauma, and/or other injuries associated with traumatic service experiences, will host its 12th Annual "Be the Light" Gala, presented by Subaru, USA from 5 to 9pm. The nonprofit aims to raise $250,000 to continue to provide survivors with the wrap-around care they need in order to heal from the trauma they have suffered and find true restoration and freedom. Special guest speaker is Ambassador John Cotton Richmond, a diplomat whose career has taken him to the front lines in the global battle against human trafficking. In addition, guests will hear from anti-trafficking advocate San Diego District Attorney Summer Stephan, enjoy live music from Ryan Hiller, partake in a silent and live auction, savor incredible interactive food and dessert stations, and sip signature cocktails. generatehope.org Play it Forward Fundraiser SEPTEMBER 12 | BELLY UP TAVERN The Museum of Making Music will host its Play it Forward Fundraiser featuring Don Felder, a former lead guitarist of the Eagles, as he presents some of the most dynamic music from his ever-evolving career. Proceeds from the event, which includes a concert, live auction, and fund-a-student pledge drive, will support the Museum of Making Music and its educational outreach programs. Having just celebrated its reopening to the general public this April after a three-month renovation, MoMM now houses a transformed space full of immersive musical instrument exhibitions, a versatile studio/ classroom area for both students and adults, and improved accessibility for visitors. Through the Title One Field Trip Program, the museum provides free admission and covers all transportation costs for more than 5,500 students each year who come from schools where 92 percent live below the poverty level. Additionally, adults on financial assistance participate in band and orchestra programs. In its 24-year history, the museum has been patronized by more than 1 million students and visitors from local communities throughout Southern California and beyond. museumofmakingmusic.org Jewel Ball 2024 AUGUST 3 | LA JOLLA BEACH & TENNIS CLUB At the 78th annual Jewel Ball, "Meet Me in Marrakesh," guests will be transported into the lush and opulent garden of a Moroccan riad. "In recent years, the need in our nonprofit community has grown exponentially," says Las Patronas President Julie Garrie. "We are so tremendously grateful for the support we have received this year to enable us to continue to fund our beneficiaries' crucial needs." Since its inception in 1946, Las Patronas has donated nearly $27 million to more than 1,000 charitable institutions in San Diego. The funds distributed to these organizations are generated through yearlong fundraising efforts and the annual presentation of the Jewel Ball. The 2024 major beneficiaries each receiving a grant of more than $50,000 to fund a critically needed capital item are: Adapt Functional Movement Center, Center for Community Solutions, Guide Dogs of America, KPBS, Urban Street Angels, Inc., and Zoological Society of San Diego.
